Beschreibung

When a single drive can't hold the project, the WD G-RAID SHUTTLE 4 steps in with four 7,200RPM hard drives working together inside one Thunderbolt 3 enclosure. Built for editors, colourists, and studios managing capacities most single drives can't touch, it scales from 24TB up to 104TB while keeping a stable, sustained transfer rate for multi-stream 4K, 8K, and beyond.

Key Features

  • Four internal 7,200RPM enterprise-grade hard drives working as a single high-capacity volume
  • Thunderbolt 3 connectivity (40Gb/s) with USB-C and USB 3.2 Gen 1 support
  • Built-in hardware RAID, factory-configured per capacity for the best balance of speed and protection
  • Daisy-chain up to 5 additional Thunderbolt devices from a single port
  • Optimised for multi-stream video workflows: editing, backup, and archiving side by side
  • 5-Year Limited Warranty, with an additional year available exclusively via Western Digital's own registration

Capacity, Speed, and RAID Mode

The G-RAID SHUTTLE 4 ships in different default RAID configurations depending on capacity. The 24TB and 48TB models default to RAID 0, striping data across all four drives for maximum throughput (up to 1000MB/s read, 1100MB/s write) with no redundancy. The 80TB and 104TB models default to RAID 5, sacrificing some capacity and top-end speed (up to 700-640MB/s read, 850-800MB/s write) in exchange for protection against a single drive failure. All capacities can be reconfigured to a different RAID level if your workflow calls for it.

Built for the Edit Bay, Not Just the Shelf

This isn't a backup drive that happens to be big. The G-RAID SHUTTLE 4 is designed to sit on the desk and stay there: sustained multi-stream performance for ingest and editing, enough headroom to run scratch and archive from the same box, and Thunderbolt 3's 40Gb/s ceiling to keep pace with modern camera formats. Daisy-chaining support means it slots into an existing Thunderbolt chain without eating your only port.

Why do the 80TB and 104TB models default to RAID 5 while 24TB and 48TB default to RAID 0?

WD configures each capacity for the RAID level that best fits its typical use case. At 24TB and 48TB, RAID 0 maximises usable capacity and speed for active project work where the data is also backed up elsewhere. At 80TB and 104TB, the larger dataset makes drive failure more costly, so RAID 5 sacrifices one drive's worth of capacity for parity protection. All capacities can be reformatted to a different RAID level if you'd rather prioritise differently.

What happens if a drive fails?

In RAID 5 (80TB and 104TB default), the enclosure keeps working with one failed drive and your data stays accessible while you arrange a replacement. In RAID 0 (24TB and 48TB default), there is no redundancy: a single drive failure affects the full volume, so these capacities are best paired with a separate backup rather than treated as the only copy.

Can I connect this to a Mac or PC without adapters?

Yes, if your computer has a Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) port, connect directly with the included cable. USB-C and USB 3.2 Gen 1 hosts are also supported at reduced speeds. Older Thunderbolt 2 (mini-DisplayPort) Macs need a certified Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, sold separately.

Can I daisy-chain other Thunderbolt devices?

Yes, the G-RAID SHUTTLE 4 supports daisy-chaining up to 5 additional Thunderbolt devices from a single Thunderbolt port on your computer, so it doesn't need to occupy a port on its own.
